MY BEST FRIEND 2008 & 2009

Bee and Em have been best friends for thirty years: they're on holiday in rural France, away from the demands of work and family. But just as they're setting the clocks forward, in steps Chris, a blast from their school days past. As the evening wears on, the three women joke and fight with one another just like the old times. But time plays tricks with memory and some wounds are just too deep to heal. This provocative and hilarious play takes a scalpel to childhood friendships and asks whether we ever get over them.

MY FAIR LADY 2008

Professor Henry Higgins takes a bet from Colonel Pickering that he can transform unrefined, dirty Cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle into a lady, and fool everyone into thinking she really is one, too! He does, and thus young aristocrat Freddy Eynsford-Hill falls madly in love with her. But when Higgins takes all the credit and forgets to acknowledge her efforts, Eliza angrily leaves him for Freddy, and suddenly Higgins realizes he's grown accustomed to her face and can't really live without it.

SINGLE FARE TO ZURICH 2008

Three years after their first collaboration on City Lights, Benet reunited with James Woolf to direct the latter's one-act play as part of a comedy festival. Spencer is an awkward man visiting Jessica in a block of flats in Zurich, Switzerland. Next door, Colin, another awkward man, is about to have sex with Nita who he met on a web design course.
It transpires that Jessica is working for Dignitas, the company which assists people to commit suicide, and that Spencer is there to die. Colin, meanwhile, is trying to get them evicted.  As the play develops, Nita and Spencer meet by chance and form a surprising friendship, while Colin and Jessica begin to understand each other's positions. In a farcical final scene, Spencer gets more than the kiss of life and all the characters are brought to a moment of revelation.

Staged over the course of a week, and with much rewriting and refining of the script - including a newly written epilogue in which all the characters write to the head of Dignitas - Single Fare to Zurich was a quirky, witty and occasionally touching piece that dealt with a serious subject in a tasteful way.

The writer is hoping to showcase the production in a more central location very soon.
